Audi S3 sedan now available with manual transmission

The Audi S3 sedan can now be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission.

Audi Australia confirmed a manual variant of the 2015 model S3 sedan has been brought online due to high demand for such a model in the range. The S3 sedan was previously only available with a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder model proffers 210kW of power (up from 206kW in 2014 models) and 380Nm of torque, and it is lighter in manual guise than it is with the S tronic, weighing 1505 kilograms (auto: 1535kg).

It is slower, though - Audi claims a 0-100km/h sprint time in the manual of 5.4 seconds - 0.4sec slower than the S tronic version. It also uses a little more fuel on the official combined cycle, at 7.0 litres per 1ookm (S tronic: 6.9L/100km).

The sedan's sister model, the S3 Sportback hatch, has been available with the six-speed manual transmission since its launch, and that version accounts for about 12 per cent of total sales.

The S3 sedan is the most popular variant of the broader A3 sedan range, with 38 per cent of buyers choosing the go-fast, all-wheel drive model.

Deliveries of the manual Audi S3 sedan are expected to begin within the coming weeks. Pricing is up slightly for 2015, with the S3 sedan now kicking off at $63,400 plus on-road costs whether you choose the manual or the S tronic.
