2015 Audi TT Coupe pricing and specifications

Priced from $71,950 plus on-road costs, the all-new Audi TT Coupe comes in considerably more affordable than CarAdvice was lead to believe at the international launch of the car, yet still a touch dearer than the model it replaces.

The 2015 Audi TT Coupe has arrived in Australia, almost 20 years after the first ever version of the German brand's compact coupe went on sale.

However, the previous-generation model had a less powerful 1.8-litre base model with less equipment (which started at $69,350 plus costs) and the new-generation model represents a better buy-in price for those interested in a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to the tune of $3500.

All TT models available in Australia from launch are offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol turbo (TFSI) unit with 169kW and 370Nm.

The 2.0 TFSI can be had with a six-speed manual gearbox in the entry-level variants, while a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission is available at a $3000 premium. The entry models are front-wheel drive, but there's also the option of quattro all-wheel drive, which adds a further $3000.

The all-new TT is built upon the flexible Volkswagen Group MQB platform that also underpins the Golf small car, and as well as being about 50 kilograms lighter than its predecessor it is also more fuel efficient. Fuel use is rated at 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres for the manual, 6.3L/100km for the S tronic front-wheel drive, and 6.4L/100km for the quattro all-wheel drive.

The new model also adopts the brand's first Virtual Cockpit layout, with a fully digital instrument cluster that doubles as a navigation screen. Read our Quick Guide to the 2015 Audi TT for a full breakdown on the technical side of the new model.

The 2015 Audi TT will be sold in two new model lines, the entry-level Sport (pictured in the images above) and top-end S line (see below), and according to the brand, the new model is set to "create new excitement in the small sports car segment".

"The original TT defined the future direction of Audi when it was shown 20 years ago, in 1995," said Audi Australia managing director Andrew Doyle.

"It came before the R8 supercar and before our incredible run of success at Le Mans. A lot of time had passed since the iconic Sport quattro S1, and the original TT really pointed to Audi becoming the dynamic, exciting brand it is today.

"The all-new new third-generation model extends the sporty concept that the original began, and now more than ever, the new TT is a true sports car and also a technology leader. In Australia, we know that our TT customers place a high value on the kind of technology that is showcased in this car, so we have worked hard to ensure a really outstanding level of standard equipment," Doyle said.

Audi says it has already taken 300 orders for the new TT, and Doyle reckons the car will be the most successful TT ever.
