2016 Range Rover Evoque headlights teased

An image teasing the headlights of the 2016 Range Rover Evoque has been released ahead of its Geneva motor show unveiling next month.

The 2016 model represents the first major upgrade for the hugely successful compact luxury SUV, arriving a little less than four years after Evoque production kicked off in 2011.

The shadowy teaser image reveals the baby Range Rover’s new LED headlight signature that comprises sinister-looking W-shaped light bars and retains the sporting character of the original.

The 2016 Range Rover Evoque will become the first Land Rover to feature full LED adaptive headlights, which the company says provide superior illumination in dark conditions and follow the curves of the road.

While details remain scarce, Land Rover says the 2016 Range Rover Evoque benefits from a new engine line-up (almost certainly new petrol engines from Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium family first seen in the Jaguar XE), new safety and convenience features, interior enhancements, and additional exterior revisions.

It’s also expected that a cabriolet model will join the line-up after a soft-top prototype was recently spied in late-stage testing, though it’s unclear at this stage if it will debut alongside the conventional three- and five-door SUV variants in Geneva.

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said his team’s challenge in penning the update was to “enhance Evoque without diluting its iconic design”.

“The design refreshments give it an even greater presence on the road yet retain the emotion appeal that has made it so popular with more than 400,000 customers around the world,” McGovern said.

The 2016 Range Rover Evoque is destined to reach Australian showrooms around September of this year.

Further details on the updated Evoque will be released on February 23.
