2015 Ssangyong Tivoli spied testing in Australia

Set to rival the likes of Nissan's Juke, Holden's Trax and Renault's Captur, the Ssangyong Tivoli measures 4195mm long and 1795mm wide, smack bang around the segment average.

Powered exclusively by either a 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol or 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel, the Tivoli can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. The diesel offering won't be available at launch, so punters will only have the 93kW and 157Nm petrol engine available to start with.

Ssangyong's Indian parent company Mahindra is rumoured to be working on six new engines, which are expected to be small turbocharged petrol units, some of which will eventually make their way into the Tivoli.

The Tivoli's styling is a considerable step away from previous Ssangyong models, which have struggled to gain traction in the Australian market. The small SUV features modern features such as variable-speed steering, a 7-inch entertainment screen, front and rear parking sensors, LED running lights and a suite of safety features.

Local pricing hasn't been announced yet, but we expect it to start from between $20,000-25,000 given the company it will keep. Australian testing also suggests the company could be tuning the ride and handling for unique Australian conditions.
