Next Hyundai Tucson sketched out, ix35 name ditched

The Korean company has sketched out the look of its new small SUV, which, it seems, will again be badged as the Hyundai Tucson across the world.

According to Hyundai, the next-generation car will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show, which takes place at the beginning of March.

Unlike the current-generation vehicle it seems as though the car wear the Tucson badge worldwide. The current car is badged as the Tucson throughout most of the Americas and Asia, but is sold as the ix35 in Australia and Europe.

In the preview video (above), Peter Schreyer, chief design officer for both Hyundai and Kia, says "its name is a statement of the global importance of the car: the all-new Tucson".

We're waiting to hear back from Hyundai Australia as to whether the next-generation vehicle will indeed revert back to the Tucson name.

Regardless of what name the car wears, the new small SUV will succeed the popular ix35, which last year was the top-selling vehicle in its category, notching up 17,922 sales or about 6,400 units more than its nearest competitor, the Subaru XV. It's expected that the new SUV will make its local debut in the third quarter of this year.

The official sketch (above) indicates that the new Tucson will evolve the company's latest SUV styling theme, which was first seen on the larger Santa Fe.

According to Schreyer, the new SUV will feature "flowing surfaces, sharp lines", as well as a "new generation of [the] hexagonal grille".
