Holden VE Commodore Lumina Sedan Special Edition

Interesting news from Holden this morning, the old General has launched a new special edition VE Commodore Lumina. The special edition model will start from $32,990, a good $1,500 less than the Holden Omega, the base model Commodore.

It appears to be the first attempt discounting effort by Holden to help boost Commodore sales, perhaps an attempt to curb the possibility that Toyota's all new Corolla will take the "Australia's best selling car" title for this year.

We asked GM Holden if the Omega will coexist with the new Special Edition Lumina in dealer showrooms, Holden spokesman John Lindsay told Car Advice:

The Omega is primarily a fleet car - we don't sell many to private customers. These packs are designed as a special offer to help this model appeal to the family buyer and give them an attractive new entry level option for a short period which might encourage some additional people to purchase.

The Lumina is a great package for an entry level Commodore, and as one of our readers pointed out, even the VE SS Commodore doesn't carry some of the equipment found in the Lumina.

The special edition Commodore Lumina is based on the VE Commodore Omega and is powered by the 3.6 litre Alloytec V6 engine (180kW of power at 6000rpm and 330Nm of torque at 2600rpm).

For the unfortunate private buyers who opted out for the Omega, the special edition Lumina is a kick in the face from Holden! We believe Holden is attempting to boost private sales for the Commodore as the Lumina is only offered to private buyers.

In addition to the standard features found on the Commodore Omega, the Commodore Lumina includes:

  • Air conditioning
  • 18” Alloy wheels (steel spare)
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • Bluetooth phone connectivity
  • Distinctive front grille
  • Body colour door handles and mirrors
  • Special Lumina rear badge

The Lumina also comes in a range of colours (metallic paint $400 extra):

  • Heron White (solid)
  • Red Passion
  • Evoke
  • Nickel
  • Impulse
  • Sandstorm
  • Phantom

The Lumina is available now, Holden have not put a set limit on the number of Lumina's produced. Holden spokesman John Lindsay told Car Advice:

There isn't a specific number we'd give out but it will be for a limited period.

If you were thinking of buying a base model Commodore, now is the time!
