Ariel Nomad – no nonsense off-road buggy coming in 2015

The Ariel Atom redefined lightweight motoring when it was launched more than a decade ago. Now, Ariel Motor Company is taking its minimalist approach to off-road vehicles with the Ariel Nomad open-air buggy.

What looks more like a Tamiya radio-controlled model than a car, the Nomad follows the Atom's lead - a spaceframe chassis with to a small four-cylinder engine in the back.

The car is still rear-wheel drive, but where the original Atom spawned many (each madder than the last) variants, we imagine the Nomad will follow suit and wouldn't rule out an all-wheel-drive version down the track.

Ariel states the car will cost about £30,000 (about $57,000 in Australia), but full details and Australian availability are yet to be announced.

The Nomad will make its official debut in January 2015.
