2015 Toyota New Cars

Details of the new and updated Toyota models launching in Australia in 2015.

Toyota Prius C – Q1

Following its unveiling at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show, the revamped Toyota Prius C will arrive in local showrooms by March 2015.

Sporting a marginally more aggressive design including LED headlights and a restyled bumper – not to mention three new colours – it looks a little fresher from the outside. The interior, too, has been reworked, with new materials and upholstery, a revised media system and, likely, more standard equipment.

The more important bits of the Prius C are unlikely to see much change – that means its 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain will continue to permit it one of the best fuel consumption ratings on the market – 3.9L/100km.

Toyota Camry update – Mid 2015

Arriving about six months later than initially anticipated will be the updated version of the Toyota Camry sedan.

The final incarnation of the Aussie-built mid-size sedan will bring with it a range of changes – the most dramatic being its styling, which moves away from the current car’s angular, boxy design to a sleeker, arguably more attractive appearance.

Don’t expect much in the way of drivetrain changes (the 2.5-litre four-cylinder will continue, as will the 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid), but the interior should see some significant improvements over the current car.

It should hit showrooms by the end of July, with pricing and equipment likely to be improved in light of plenty of competition in the medium car segment.

Toyota Aurion update – Mid 2015

The extent of the changes that we can expect for the 2015 Toyota Aurion remains somewhat unclear.

The Japanese brand’s V6-powered (Camry-based) sedan is set to be updated with a minor exterior rejig and updated interior. We’re yet to see any images of what to expect. However, with production of the Aurion winding up in 2017, we wouldn't expect huge alterations.

What we could see, though, are price and equipment improvements, particularly given the strong positioning of rival Aussie-made models such as the Holden Commodore and just-updated Ford Falcon.

Toyota Prius V – Mid 2015

The new-look, revised Toyota Prius V will debut in Australia in about June following its unveiling at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show.

The updated model gets a revised front-end design including LED headlights, as well as a slightly more muscular front bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights. At the rear it sees minor changes, including new tail-light inlays.

The interior sees some further enhancements, including a new media system and centre stack display, as well as revised materials through the cabin. The cockpit should be quieter and more comfortable, according to the brand, as there have been changes made to its suspension and its noise insulation has been increased.

Expect the same 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain, with perhaps a minor improvement to its fuel consumption rating (currently 4.4L/100km).

Toyota HiLux – Q4/2016

While we’ve been expecting and anticipating the arrival of a new-generation Toyota HiLux (for years!), the eighth-generation version of the Japanese brand’s big-selling ute may not actually arrive until 2016.

We asked Toyota to clarify why this would be the case, but there’s no strong answer as yet. Of course, the vehicle hasn’t been revealed yet, and may not be until the company’s home ground motor show in Tokyo, at the start of November.

There isn’t much in the way of detail of the new-generation HiLux, though we’d expect to see new turbo diesel engines, an increased payload and improved towing capacity.

Should the HiLux arrive before the end of 2015, it’ll be sure to hit the market amid a wave of new models, including the all-new Nissan Navara, heavily updated Mitsubishi Triton and facelifted versions of the Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50.

Toyota Prius – 2016

The all-new Toyota Prius hatch will be unveiled in 2015, but we shouldn’t expect to see it in local showrooms before the end of the year.

The new model – which has been spied previously by our secret snappers – is expected to push the petrol-electric hybrid hatchback down the green path even further than it ever has been.

That could mean an optional plug-in hybrid drivetrain (we’ve already learnt there will be a choice between nickel metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries), reduced fuel consumption (from its already impressive 3.9L/100km), and more of a focus on aerodynamics – the new model will receive an entirely new body.

It may also adopt all-wheel drive, and Toyota’s executives have told us the new car will be more fun to drive than the current version.

Stay tuned for more.
