New Saab 9-3

There has been a lot of news regarding the new Saab 9-3, and so far we have been a little silent, mainly because Saab Australia has been a little silent to release details for the Australian market. The time has come however, with Saab Australia announcing specifications for the new Saab 9-3.

Firstly, we have to admit, we like the look of this thing, it moves away from the boxy-boring Saab look to a far more aggressive and bold look. Saab have even given the new 9-3 range some power to back the looks.

The new range comes with all-wheel-drive (for the 2.8-litre), and a choice of diesel, petrol and BioPower (E85) engines. Saab Australia expects the new 9-3 range by mid next year.

The 2008 9-3 boasts a ‘tri-fuel’ engine line-up and introduces to the range:

  • Aero XWD (‘cross wheel drive’) - all-wheel-drive system and uprated version of the 2.8V6 turbo producing 206 kW and 400 Nm,
  • TTiD, an innovative and powerful 132 kW, twin-stage 1.9 turbo diesel delivering 400 Nm of torque, and
  • a new 2.0 litre BioPower engine for Sport Sedan, SportCombi and Convertible with 147 kW on E85 fuel.

As far as Saab convertibles go, this is the best looking yet, but will it save Saab from its financial troubles? We certainly hope so.
No pricing details has been confirmed for the Australian market. The current Saab 9-3 range (which includes a massive 42 variants) starts from $39,990 for the 1.8-litre Linear Sedan manual.
