2015 Honda HR-V :: Specifications surface ahead of small SUV launching locally

Initial specification details of the all-new 2015 Honda HR-V have been published on the Japanese brand's local website, offering buyers a rundown of the different trim levels that will be offered for the compact SUV - but there are no pricing details just yet.

What we know is that the new Honda HR-V will be offered in three main specification levels - the entry-level VTi (pictured bottom), mid-range VTi-S (pictured below), and top-end VTi-L (pictured top) - all powered by the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is also seen in the Honda Civic sedan.

That means a power output of 105kW at 6500rpm and peak torque of 172Nm at 4300rpm, and while CarAdvice is under the impression that a manual option will be offered later in 2015, all HR-V models will be fitted with a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) auto gearbox. Fuel use for the front-drive only model is unconfirmed at this stage, though it is expected to use between 6.5 and 7.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

The HR-V will also be offered with a range of safety systems that will be segment firsts in the booming compact SUV market, on top of the standard reverse-view camera unit.

They include a system known as Lane Watch, that uses a small side mirror-based camera to monitor the left lane and display what is in the blind spot of the car when the left indicator is on. Other safety items include the City-Brake Active System which monitors the road ahead and can apply the brakes if an imminent accident is detected (up to 30km/h).

The range-topping VTi-L ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist System) adds even more gear, including a forward collision warning system (for higher speeds), a more advanced lane departure warning system, and an automated high-beam light system.

It is not yet clear what crash rating the new Honda HR-V will attract, but given its extensive equipment (including dual front, front side and full-length curtain airbags), it should achieve the maximum five-star score.

While pricing is still yet to be confirmed by the brand, the Honda HR-V will likely be priced between $22,000 through to about $30,000 (or a bit more) for the top-end model.
