Keen on a Porsche 918 Spyder for Christmas? Too bad – they’re all sold
The last of the limited-run Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercars has been sold.
Porsche limited the build to just 918 units (see what they did there?) worldwide.
As far as the odds of bumping into one at the shops goes (or outside your hotel as Tony did in Paris...), don't get your car-spotting notebook out just yet.
One-third of all 918's built were sold to customers in the US (297 cars). China and Germany accounted for roughly 100 cars each, leaving the remaining 400-odd cars scattered around the globe.
Sadly, though, none of the left-hand-drive exotics were sold in Australia.
Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller suggested earlier this year that the million-dollar-plus supercar (US$845,000 plus taxes, options and dealer delivery if you are counting) would be sold out by the end of the year, and that it would be unfair to buyers for Porsche to build more than the original allotment of 918 cars.
The carbonfibre 918 Spyder can sprint to 100km/h in about 2.5 seconds and is more economical on the combined cycle than a Toyota Prius.
