2015 BMW 6 Series, M6 updates revealed

The BMW 6 Series luxury sports car family and the high-performance BMW M6 halo models have been upgraded for 2015 with fresh styling, extra technology and features, and updated interiors.

The 6 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe models benefit from a newly designed kidney grille and restyled front and rear bumpers designed to accentuate the cars’ width.

Newly developed LED headlights are standard across the range, while all six-cylinder models get larger tailpipe finishers.

Five new metallic paint colours – Jatoba, Cashmere Silver, Glacier Silver, Mediterranean Blue, and Melbourne Red – inject an extra hit of freshness to the exterior.

The cabins gain new high-quality materials, including two-tone leather upholstery, which is available for the first time in the 6 Series.

BMW has also introduced the Design Pure Experience and Design Pure Excellence equipment lines – the former emphasising the car’s sporting nature with black trim highlights, the latter pushing the luxury angle with lighter tones.

It also upgrades to the latest generation of BMW’s head-up display system, which projects vehicle speed, 3D graphics, navigation information, phone and entertainment information, check control messages, and driver assistance information in full colour onto the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight.

An embedded SIM card brings BMW’s ConnectedDrive Services to the 6 Series, introducing internet-based functions including access to millions of music tracks, Facebook and Twitter integration, and the Concierge Service that links drivers to a personal assistant for all information requests.

Design changes to the BMW M6 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe are more subtle, benefitting from the newly styled LED headlights, but otherwise carrying over unchanged.

Jatoba metallic paint, Merino Aragon leather upholstery and black chrome trim accents headline the other major design upgrades.

The M6 also comes standard with ConnectedDrive, which facilitates the new BMW M Laptimer and GoPro apps designed to help drivers analyse and enjoy their time behind the wheel at new levels.

All 2015 BMW 6 Series and M6 models are mechanically unchanged from before.

The 640i produces 235kW and 450Nm from its turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, the 640d 230kW and 630Nm from its 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel, and the 650i 330kW and 650Nm from its 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8.

The M6’s more powerful twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 churns out 412kW and 680Nm, and can be bumped up to 423kW by ticking the optional Competition Package box.

BMW Australia corporate communications general manager Lenore Fletcher said the updated 6 Series and M6 models would reach local showrooms around the middle of next year. Australian specifications and prices will be announced closer to launch. Currently, the 640i costs from $176,975-$192,975, the 640d $184,800 (Gran Coupe only), the 650i $230,975-$246,975, and the M6 $291,675-$307,675.
