The i20 Coupe goes a small way to justifying its name via a lower roof line, and more aggressively raked A- and C-pillars compared with the five-door i20. Standing 1449mm tall, the new i20 three-door is 25mm shorter than the second-generation five-door i20.
Other stylistic differences include a more aggressive upside-down hexagonal grille, a prominent character line above the rear wheel arch, refashioned front and rear bumpers, enlarged doors and different tail-lights.
Despite featuring two fewer doors, at 4045mm from front to rear, the i20 three-door is actually 10mm longer than the five-door hatch. Measuring 1730mm wide, it's also 4mm narrower than five-door. Both i20 variants sit on the same 2570mm wheelbase.
The three-door has a claimed 336 litres worth of boot space, which is 10L more than the five-door.
Top-spec i20 three-door models can be had with 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, touchscreen satellite navigation and a panoramic roof.
In Europe, the i20 Coupe will be available with two diesel and two petrol engines.
Those who prefer compression ignition engines can choose between a 55kW/180Nm 1.1-litre and a 66kW/240Nm 1.4-litre, both of which are mated exclusively to a six-speed manual. On the petrol side of the ledger, buyers can opt for a 62kW/122Nm 1.3-litre motor with a five-speed manual or a 74kW/134Nm 1.4-litre fitted with either a six-speed manual or four-speed auto.
A 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine will join the Euro i20 range in the latter portion of 2015.
Designed by Hyundai's European design studios, the i20 Coupe is set to be produced at the company's Turkish plant and will go on sale across Europe in 2015.
As we reported earlier, it's still not clear when or if Australia will receive the second-generation i20.
