Skoda’s car museum now available for virtual tours through Google Maps

Skoda and Google have made the Czech car maker's automotive museum available online via Google Maps Street View.

To take a look around, just go to the Google Maps website or smartphone app, search for "Škoda Muzeum" and then click 'Look Inside'.

The Skoda museum was reopened in 2012 after an extensive remodelling, and now incorporates 340 displays spread across 1800 square metres of floor space.

Vehicles on show include production and racing cars, as well as concept cars, such as the VisionD. There's also an assortment of other items, including engines, trophies, merchandise, motorcycles and a few bikes.

Virtual visitors can step inside for a 360-degree view of a small number of vehicles, including the company's first production car, the Voiturette A.

After mapping and imaging much of the world's roads, sometimes with more than a touch of controversy, Google has started using variations of its Street View technology to document sites that aren't strictly speaking roads, such as the Pyramids of Giza, Brazil's World Cup stadiums and CERN's research facilities, including the Large Hadron Collider.

Since last year the list of Street View destinations grew to include a few car museums, including Lamborghini's and Honda's. Earlier this year, the search giant also allowed everyone online to visit Chrysler's Sterling Heights plant in suburban Detroit.
