The Chrysler Grand Voyager will be replaced in 2015, and the brand’s design boss, Ralph Gilles, told CarAdvice at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show that buyers can expect the new-generation minivan to be “sexy”.
Gilles said the new model due in 2015 – as part of Fiat Chrysler’s open-book five-year plan – has been a fun project to be a part of.
“It’s fun. I’m a closet worshipper of the minivan. I love that product, and we own it still – we’re number one in the world for minivans. So we take it very seriously,” he said.
The new model – which could debut at the 2015 Detroit auto show in January – is of high importance for the brand, according to Gilles.
“If anything, that’s our baby. There’s a lot of people in the company who have dedicated crazy amounts of time to figure out how to make it the best van,” he said. “So full force and team on that one, full-court press, you know.
“But yeah, I think you can make it sexy … to be a Chrysler, it’s going to have to be drop-dead gorgeous, right?” he posited.
The current Grand Voyager has been on sale since 2008. It is also sold in some markets as a Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, and also bears the Volkswagen badge in North America, where it is sold as the VW Routan.
