2015 Porsche Cayenne : Entry V6 petrol and GTS coming in February

The 2015 Porsche Cayenne range that arrives in Australia later this month will be bolstered in February by updated versions of the base V6 petrol and powerful GTS performance model.

Previously the cheapest model in the range, the upgraded Porsche Cayenne petrol costs $7800 more than before, priced from $108,000 plus on-road costs. The increase makes the updated Cayenne Diesel the new entry variant, priced from $104,700 (up $4100).

The Cayenne petrol gains a host of standard features including 19-inch Cayenne Turbo alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights with four-point LED daytime running lights, multi-function sports steering wheel with paddleshifters, auto tailgate, and auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors.

Stop-start and coasting functions are also introduced to the enhanced drivetrain, helping to cut combined cycle fuel consumption from 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres to 9.2L/100km.

The Cayenne’s naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine continues to produce 220kW and 400Nm, yet the updated model manages to shave two-tenths off its 0-100km/h time, which falls to 7.7 seconds (7.6sec with the optional Sport Chrono package).

The 2015 Porsche Cayenne GTS trades its predecessor’s naturally aspirated 4.8-litre V8 for an uprated version of the twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 in the new Cayenne S.

Despite measuring three-quarters the size of the old engine, power rises 14kW to 323kW and torque by 85Nm to 600Nm, lowering the sprint time of the GTS by half a second to 5.2sec, and the Sport Chrono version by six-tenths to 5.1sec.

Combined cycle fuel consumption also falls 0.9L/100km to 9.8-10.0L/100km.

The GTS lettering on the front doors is new, joining a long list of standard items that includes the Porsche Active Suspension Management damping system, 390mm front and 358mm rear brake discs from the Cayenne Turbo with red calipers, 20-inch black RS Spyder alloy wheels, eight-way electric front sports seats, and leather/alcantara upholstery.

The 2015 Porsche Cayenne petrol and GTS will make their world debut on November 19 at the Los Angeles auto show.

Full pricing and specifications of the rest of the 2015 Porsche Cayenne range were announced in September.
