The firm's managing director, Lawrence Whittaker, spoke to British magazine Auto Express as he tried to drum up the investment that would make the Lister hypercar a reality.
Powering the new car will be a new 7.8-litre V12 cranking out over 745kW (1000hp) of power. Unlike the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari, there will be no electric motors in the Lister's drivetrain, just a relatively simple supercharger.
The company envisages a top speed of beyond 400km/h, which, if realised, would put the Lister in elite company alongside the likes of the Koenigsegg Agera and Bugatti Veyron.
As with the Koenigsegg and Bugatti, the Lister will be a multi-million dollar car. Whittaker expects the company's hypercar to retail for around 2 million pounds ($3.7 million).
Lister gained fame in the 1960s with the Lister-Jaguar race cars (above), which married the drivetrain of the Jaguar D-Type with Lister's custom-built "knobbly" aluminium body.
In the 1990s, the company took on Le Mans with the Lister Storm, an angular race car powered by a 7-litre version of Jaguar's V12 engine.
The company currently produces recreations of the Lister "knobbly" Jaguar for around 350,000 pounds ($640,000) each.
