Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet : Spy shots reveal S-Class Coupe-inspired tail-lights

The first-ever Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet will feature styling inspired by the super-luxurious S-Class Coupe, as these spy shots reveal.

Captured by CarAdvice’s snappers in Germany, the images uncover the upcoming C-Class Cabriolet’s rear end, exposing for the first time its slim, horizontal tail-lights that mirror those of the two-door S-Class.

The predominantly red LED fixtures span the rear quarter panels and tailgate and are connected by a chrome strip that runs the width of the boot along their upper edges.

Two slim, rectangular tailpipes sit at the corners of the Cabriolet’s rear bumper.

The front end is expected to largely mirror the styling of the C-Class sedan and wagon, featuring the same long bonnet, short overhang, prominent grille and elegant LED-infused headlights.

As with its Audi A5 Cabriolet and BMW 4 Series Convertible rivals and its larger E-Class Cabriolet sibling, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet will feature a folding fabric roof and seating for four.

The dashboard is said to carry over almost unchanged from the sedan and wagon, though the centre stack is believed to gain an additional cluster of buttons for operating the roof.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet will reportedly be revealed in the second half of next year ahead of its anticipated Australian release in 2016. It will become the fourth body style in the new C-Class range, joining the sedan and wagon and the forthcoming coupe, on which the drop-top model will be based.

The Cabriolet will inherit its powertrains from the fixed-roof models, with a range of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines to be offered, along with the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 for the rumoured Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet to take on the Audi RS5 Cabriolet and BMW M4 Convertible. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions are also reportedly on the agenda for the German luxury car maker.
