Toyota recalls 1.75m vehicles around the world : 10,800 Lexus IS, GS, LS models affected in Australia

Toyota Motor Corporation has recalled 1.75 million vehicles around the world over three separate defects, including more than one million cars in Japan.

The first recall relates to the fuel pipes of 759,000 Toyota Crown, Crown Majesta and Mark X models and Lexus IS, GS and LS vehicles produced between January 2005 and September 2010.

Approximately 10,800 Lexus IS and IS F sedans, IS convertibles, GS and LS models built between September 2005 and August 2010 have been recalled in Australia over the defect.

Lexus Australia says there is the possibility that the sealing property of the gasket between the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel delivery pipe could become degraded.

“If this occurs, fuel could leak past the gasket during vehicle operation, potentially increasing the risk of a fire hazard,” the car maker said in a statement.

Lexus says there have been no accidents, injuries or fires reported in Australia as a result of the defect.

The company will contact affected customers by mail at their last known address and ask them to make an appointment at their local Lexus dealer. Recalled vehicles will have a new fuel pressure sensor gasket fitted. The service will take three to four hours and will be conducted free of charge.

The largest recall of the trio affects 802,000 Toyota Crown, Crown Majesta, Noah and Voxy models manufactured between June 2007 and June 2012. The affected vehicles require a new rubber seal ring in the brake master cylinder to prevent brake fluid from leaking, and a new brake booster if fluid has already leaked.

The third recall affects 190,000 Auris (Corolla) and Corolla Rumion models produced between October 2006 and October 2014 and sold in Japan. The vehicles have been recalled to fix a defective fuel evaporative emission control unit.

Toyota says it is not aware of any fires, crashes, injuries or fatalities related to the three defects.

The recall is the fourth to exceed one million vehicles for the Japanese car maker this year, following the recalls of 1.9 million Prius hybrids over a power loss issue in February, more than six million models over a potential fire risk in April, and the expansion of an older recall of more than two million vehicles over faulty airbags in June.
