Jeep launches Blackhawk special editions in Australia

Jeep has added to the appeal of its range with introduction of the distinctive, special edition Blackhawk trim package.

The Blackhawk variants are based on Jeep's Wrangler Overland, Grand Chrokee Laredo 4x4 and the Compass and Patriot Sport CVT models. Jeep Australia told CarAdvice the recently released Cherokee diesel and its petrol sibling missed the cut-off point for Blackhawk editions.

The most obvious changes to the Blackhawk models are external, where the vehicles are fitted with black accents, badging, roof rails wheels and trim. Both Compass and Patriot Blackhawk models are front-wheel drive and get special gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels, and cost $1200 more than the base cars.

Stepping up to Wrangler Blackhawk costs $2000 and adds deep tint windows, leather seats with accent stitching and a leather steering wheel with black stitching. There’s also a gloss black tyre cover and matching removable hardtop. The Wrangler Blackhawk is available in two- and four-door configuration with the V6 petrol and automatic transmission.

The range topper is the Grand Cherokee Blackhawk, which is available with either the 3.6-litre petrol or 3.0-litre diesel engine and the all-new eight-speed auto. Also for $2000, the Grand Cherokee gets grey satin gloss tail-lights, body colour fascia, gunmetal headlight bezels, body colour grille with gloss black accents, black roof mouldings, dual bright exhaust tips and 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. Inside it features black suede/leather seats with black stitching and heating.

Fiat Chrysler Australia CEO Veronica Johns says “street appeal is a consideration for many Jeep buyers”, and believes the Blackhawk package gives customers an easy alternative to ticking off options to get the custom look they want.

“Inclusions in the Blackhawk edition models provide – in one value-packed comprehensive package – the items many customers search for when they individualise their vehicles,” Johns said.
