Holden Colorado 7 recalled over third-row seat problem
A recall notice has been issued for the Holden Colorado 7 SUV due to an issue with the car's third-row seating.
The notice - posted on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's recalls.gov.au website - states that Colorado 7 vehicles produced between 24 January 2012 and 24 September 2014 are affected by a fault with the rearmost seat belts.
According to the notice "the retractor lock sensing mechanism inside the third-row seat belts may not meet a particular requirement of the Australian Design Rules relating to the locking of the safety belt when the vehicle is parked on an incline".
The hazard relating to this issue is that if the vehicle is positioned at a particular angle (between 9 and 12 degrees), the seat belt may lock in place, preventing rearmost passengers from being able to fasten their belts.
Holden has advised that 3116 vehicles are affected by the recall. The local arm of General Motors confirmed that there have been no reported instances of the problem in Australia, but that it was acting on information provided by GM Thailand - where the Colorado 7 is built.
Holden has advised that owners will be contacted directly, and that the third-row seat belts will be replaced at no cost. The fix should take one hour.
