The Holden Colorado Black Edition crew cab ute is about to roll into town, just ahead of an eerily similar take on the Toyota HiLux.
Appropriately making its premiere at next weekend’s Deni Ute Muster — a gathering of ute aficionados in the regional town of Deniliquin — the Black Edition comes with a number of Holden cosmetic accessories bundled together at a reduced price.
Additions to the regular Colorado include a hard tonneau cover, black sports bar, black nudge bar, black bonnet protector, slimline weathershields and two iPad cradles for rear-seat passengers (only while stocks last, apparently).
The package of accessories would normally cost more than $5000, Holden says, but the Lion Brand will instead sting you $3995 until the end of this year.
The timing is, to say the least, interesting. Holden’s nemesis Toyota this week teased the forthcoming HiLux Black, a limited edition version of Australia’s top-selling ute with some extra design flair.
Holden is bucking a downward trend in Australia’s sinking light commercial market this year, a symptom of declining interest from the fleet-heavy mining sector, among others. Sales of the 4×4 are up 14.0 per cent over last year, though the 4×2 is moderately down.
