Citroen C1 Urban Ride concept hints at tiny new SUV

The Citroen C1 Urban Ride concept has been revealed to showcase how much buyers can customise their city car to make it look like a proper rough-and-tumble SUV.

The new Citroen C1 show car - which will debut at the 2014 Paris motor show next week - "illustrates the potential for personalising this city car with new go-anywhere looks", according to the French brand.

Its suspension has been raised by 15 millimetres to help it deal with gutters and speed humps, and its front and rear tracks have been widened by 10mm for better road-holding (and more street presence, according to the brand). Other styling changes include new bumpers with highlighted bash plates and revised fog-light surrounds. The cladding continues from the front to rear with wheel arch extensions, sill protectors and a revised rear bumper.

The concept model will be shown in two variations at the show, including a hard-top model and one with the Airscape folding fabric roof that is available on production versions of the C1 sold in Europe. Citroen says "visitors will be able to cast their votes on a terminal near the concept, to say whether they would like to see this version in production in the future".

Citroen Australia has previously ruled out any C1 models being sold locally.

The C1 Urban Ride concept will be revealed alongside a new high-tech concept version of the C4 Cactus with utilises a compressed air hybrid drivetrain.
