2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG : 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to pump out 375kW and 700Nm

The all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG will be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing a mammoth 375kW of power and colossal 700Nm of torque, the German brand has confirmed.

Those outputs will put the new-generation C63 AMG more powerful than the existing 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 model (including the powered-up AMG 507, which had 373kW and 610Nm), and even more grunty than the brand's new Mercedes-AMG GT S super coupe which has the same 4.0-litre Biturbo engine but has outputs of 375kW and 650Nm. In terms of kilowatt highs, the new standard engine in the C63 is just short of the AMG Black models, which churned out 380kW.

Compared to its main rivals, outputs of 375kW and 700Nm will easily outdo the Audi RS4 (naturally-aspirated V8: 331kW and 430Nm) and BMW M3 (twin-turbo six: 317kW/550Nm).

Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed the fuel consumption of the new C63 will be rated at 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres on the European NEDC combined cycle, which the company says is the "world's best fuel economy in the segment".

"It goes without saying that the successor to the current C63 AMG will again be powered by an eight-cylinder engine. We owe that to our loyal fans, plain and simple," said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

"The AMG V8 Biturbo engine mesmerises not only with maximum power and torque, but also with the absolute best fuel economy in the comparative segment."

The announcement of the car's power outputs comes as Mercedes-Benz celebrates 40,000 C63 AMG sales worldwide, easily positioning the compact luxury model as the highest-selling AMG in history.

The new-generation C63 AMG is expected to make its debut at the 2014 Paris motor show in early October, and is scheduled to reach Australian showrooms in June. Stay tuned for more.
