Fiat 500X spotted camouflage free on an Italian street

The photo was shared by a user on the message boards run by Italian motoring website Quattroruote (Four Wheels).

Given the recent video teaser released by Fiat, earlier spy photos and images of the 500X's naked body shell, there are few reasons to doubt the authenticity and accuracy of this photo.

Although styled to resemble the much smaller Fiat 500, the 500X is a close relation to the Jeep Renegade. Although both the 500X and the Renegade share a common platform, as well as the Melfi factory in Italy, the two cars feature completely different exteriors.

Our earlier spy photos revealed that the Renegade and 500X will also sport vastly different interiors too. The 500X will feature more organic styling and, like the retro 500, the SUV version will feature a large slab of body-coloured plastic across the dashboard.

Reports indicate that the 500X will be about 4.2 metres long, making it larger the five-seat 500L, but shorter than the seven-seat 500L Living.

The Renegade is offered in both front- and all-wheel drive, and with a wide variety of drivetrains. Petrol options range from a 81kW 1.6-litre petrol to the 137kW 2.4-litre Tigershark engine, while diesel choices start with an 88kW 1.6-litre turbo-diesel and end with a 125kW 2.0-litre turbo motor.

Depending on the model, transmissions available Renegade include five- and six-speed manual transmissions, a six-speed dual-clutch and a nine-speed automatic. Not all of these options will make their way to Australia.

The 500X will be officially unveiled at the Paris motor show, which takes place at the beginning of October.
