Ssangyong XIV-Air, XIV-Adventure concepts preview X100

Saangyong will unveil two concept cars, the Ssangyong XIV-Air and Ssangyong XIV-Adventure, at next month's Paris motor show.

The two vehicles, which have just been unveiled via moodily lit renders, point the way to a new model, dubbed the X100, which will slot in underneath the Korando.

Both the XIV-Air (in silver) and XIV-Adventure (in khaki green) sit on a 2.6 metre long wheelbase and measure 4.195 metres from the front to the rear bumper. Should the production car keep those dimensions, the little Ssangyong will be sized neatly between the slightly smaller Nissan Juke and the marginally larger Holden Trax.

According to Ssangyong, the X100 can be ordered with either a 1.6-litre petrol motor or a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel. Both of these engines are expected to be of a new design.

The XIV-Adventure, XIV-Air and X100 sport Ssangyong's new design language, which is titled "Nature born — 3 Motion".

Key elements of the brand's new styling direction include shoulder line kinks above the wheel arches, blacked out A-pillars, a floating-style roof, shorter and wider headlights, and tail-lights which curve into the rear haunches.

Based on our earlier spy photos, most of the XIV-Adventure and XIV-Air's design elements will make it through into final production version of the X100.

The Ssangyong X100 will head into showrooms worldwide next year. Reports indicate that a Mahindra version will be launched in the second half of 2015.

For the curious, XIV is not the Roman numeral version of 14, but apparently stands for eXciting user-Interface Vehicle.
