Ferrari to build six 458-based Pininfarina Sergio supercars

Ferrari will build six exclusive supercars inspired by the Pininfarina Sergio concept that debuted at last year’s Geneva motor show.

Speaking with Autoblog, Ferrari spokesman Matteo Torre confirmed the limited run for private customers.

“This extreme limited and exclusive series celebrates 60 years of collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina,” Torre said.

The striking concept was created as a tribute to the iconic Italian design house’s late chairman, Sergio Pininfarina, who died in 2012.

The Pininfarina Sergio was a heavily modified version of the Ferrari 458 Spider, featuring its own unique body with no roof, no windscreen and no side windows.

It’s understood the production version will share much more in common with its Ferrari base car, however.

Images circulating online show the model with a proper windscreen and side windows, as well as conventional front-hinged doors in place of the concept’s scissor-style items. The strip connecting the headlights has also moved further from the tip of the car’s nose to a position higher up the bumper panel.

Ferrari has not verified the authenticity of the images at this stage.

There’s no word on how much the six Sergio customers have paid for their exclusive supercars, though each is expected to be worth considerably more than the $588,451 price tag attached to the regular 458 Spider.
