2015 Jaguar XE interior sketched out: Will feature remote smartphone control, laser head-up display

The new Jaguar XE will feature an 8-inch touchscreen and a laser head-up display, as well as a smartphone app which can remotely control a host of car functions.

Prior to today, Jaguar has given the world a sneak peak of the XE's front end, as well as its overall shape. The Tata-owned luxury brand has also detailed the car's lightweight aluminium construction and its new family of Ingenium engines.

This, though, is the first hint at the goodies the XE will be packing on the inside and the x-ray-style diagram (above) also gives us a first look at the car's interior design.

The XE's infotainment setup will be dubbed InControl and not only features a (presumably) high-resolution 8-inch touchscreen, but also a plain speech voice recognition system.

InControl can hook into smartphone apps, presenting a car-friendly interface on the touchscreen for supported applications. Jaguar has yet to detail which apps will be supported, but the company does say that drivers and passengers will be able to manage conference calls, find a parking spot or book a hotel room through the car's infotainment system. InControl will also include a Wi-Fi hotspot, which allow passengers to share the car's internet connection.

For the XE's launch, Jaguar will also release an InControl Remote app for both iOS and Android smartphones. This app will allow XE drivers to schedule events for their car up to seven days in advance, including activating the climate control system, locking or unlocking the doors, and starting the engine.

Should the car be stolen, the InControl system can keep track of the car's location and inform the relevant law enforcement authorities.

The XE will also feature an automotive first: a laser head-up display. Said to be more compact and a third lighter than current projection technology, the XE's laser head-up display will blast high contrast imagery and text onto the car's windscreen. Info that can be displayed includes the vehicle's speed, navigation instructions, cruise control settings and the current speed limit.

Jaguar will unveil the XE on September 8, UK time, at an event in London. When the XE finally heads into showrooms it will do battle with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and the Lexus IS.
