Rolls-Royce Wraith convertible confirmed for mid-2016

Rolls-Royce has confirmed that it is developing a sixth model, widely believed to be the Rolls-Royce Wraith Drophead Coupe, for its range of ultra-luxury automobiles.

In a statement released overnight, Rolls-Royce said the new car "will deliver effortless, open-top touring through the perfect marriage of modern Rolls-Royce luxury, style and elegance with an engaging and exhilarating driving experience".

Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös elaborated slightly further by saying, "We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership".

Aside from stating that the new vehicle will hit showrooms from mid-2016, no other details were revealed. By adding a convertible version of the Wraith to its line-up, Rolls-Royce will logically round out its current range of sedans, coupes and convertibles.

The range currently consists of the megabucks Phantom sedan, coupe and convertible, as well as the smaller and more affordable Ghost sedan and its Wraith coupe cousin.

So far, the company has given no indication as to what name it might bestow upon the new car.

The brand's new entry-level convertible will arrive at least a year in advance of the long rumoured, but still unconfirmed, SUV. That car, if it eventuates, will duke it out in a rarefied niche against the new Bentley SUV that's scheduled to debut in 2016.
