The 25th Anniversary MX-5 was revealed at the 2014 New York auto show in April, and sold out in a matter of minutes in the US and Japan. Only 1000 examples will be sold globally, with 40 making their way to Australia - 13 of which are already reserved.
Of the 40 cars to be sold here, 24 are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and priced at $48,380, while the remainder come with a six-speed automatic and are priced at $49,990. The model retains the same 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder engine which produces 118kW and 188Nm.
Each model feature the brand's now-signature Soul Red metallic paint with black highlights on the A-pillars, side mirrors and roof. Inside, the limited edition model gets off-white leather seat and door trims, and black leather trim on the centre armrest, steering wheel and gear knob (on the manual model).
The sales books for the Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary edition are open now. As well as the car, buyers receive a pair of his and hers Tourneau watch set with a black leather strap and red stitching.
Since the car's launch in 1989, Mazda has sold more than 940,000 examples of the MX-5. An all-new iteration of the Mazda MX-5 will launch on September 3, 2014, and it is expected to adopt a turbocharged engine.
