Full Throttle 2 : Day 5

Following on from potentially the worst dinner of all time, rump steak covered in oil, day five, the first day of shooting, began today with the Wiesmann GT MF5.

The Full Throttle 2 team arrived at the Wiesmann factory at 9am to begin our 10 hour shoot session. Unfortunately two days of pure beautiful German sun was replaced with consistent rain for the entire day.

Having planned the shots the day before, the man from Wiesmann asked us if we might be interested, instead, to film at a nearby airport! Five car fanatics, a ridiculously quick car and an airport can only mean one thing.

An hour or so of country driving and we headed straight for the airport. With the German Air Force performing training exercises above, the scene was set for some serious driving.

The Wiesmann wasn't what we expected; not only is it seriously quick but the level of grip is beyond comprehension, particularly in the wet!

Of course, part of being at an airport meant trying to slide the MF5 for the camera and this resulted in hours of sideways action as we attempted to perform a miracle slide in a car which was extremely unpredictable in the wet.

With traction control on, the MF5 is very predictable and practically impossible to lose, but turn the DSC off and the Wiesmann becomes one seriously violent (but lovable) beast.

Turn in for the slide, get the steering position right, ease the accelerator ... a small slide but nothings really happens, too much grip.

Try again. Turn in for the slide, get the steering position right, 3/4 throttle and the MF5's rear snaps out quicker than you can imagine.

The grip level in the wet is somewhat bizarre, there is so much of it that attempting to slide the MF5 requires more and more throttle and finding the sweet spot between too little and too much became an obsession.

The teaser video should give you an indication of how quickly the Wiesmann can step out when traction control is turned off.

Tomorrow we are interviewing Mr Wiesmann himself, plus we're recording our autobahn run and then heading to Munich to pick up our BMW M5.

From there we go for ABT to drive the tuned ABT R8 (and the 700+ horsepower RS6 monster).

Make sure you watch the Wiesmann Teaser Video.
