Land Rover Discovery Sport confirmed to feature seven-seat option

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport, which will replace the Freelander, will be offered with a third row of seats.

To accompany this tidbit of information, Land Rover has issued official "spy" photos and video of the new Discovery Sport undergoing testing on public roads clad in camouflage.

The Discovery Sport's disguise features a peeled back x-rayed rear section that reveals details about the car's second and third rows of seats. Jaguar Land Rover first used x-ray-style camouflage when it released a teaser image for the Jaguar XE back in May.

From the photos we can see that the Discovery Sport will look a lot like the Discovery Vision concept car that debuted at the New York auto show earlier this year. The key change from that vehicle is the switch from reverse-hinged rear suicide doors to conventional forward-hinged units.

Other modifications extend to the inclusion of visible door handles, larger wing mirrors and more realistically sized air intakes. The vehicle above also has a more conventional grille with horizontal slats; the Vision's grille featured hexagonal elements.

In the UK, where the Discovery Sport will be produced, Land Rover's new entry-level SUV will be fitted with seven seats as standard. The Discovery Sport will go on sale across Europe in 2015; Australian on-sale dates have yet to be confirmed.
