Honda NSX prototype burns to the ground at the Nurburgring

That hasn't gone well. The Honda NSX prototype our spy photographers caught running laps of the Nurburgring earlier this week has burned to the ground.

The high-tech hybrid Honda NSX- which features a midship twin-turbocharged V6 that is teamed to a trio of electric motors, with power sent to all four wheels - was reportedly taking the track at full speed when flames started appearing from the rear of the car. The driver then pulled off the track at the Pflanzgarten, and luckily escaped unharmed.

There is no firm detail on what the cause of the fire was, but it is clear from the images that it was ferocious, leaving the car completely wrecked.

Honda's new production NSX is expected to be revealed within the next six months, before going on sale in the US mid-2015. The new Honda NSX has been confirmed for Australia, and is expected to hit showrooms in 2016.
