Claimed by Ford to be "the best Falcon ever", the new Ford Falcon XR8 is said to have been designed to blend the iconic high-performance sedan's past with Ford’s new global design DNA into a refreshed premium look.
With styling cues already seen in the all-new Ford Mustang and new Mondeo – both due locally from next year – the new Ford Falcon XR8 and XR6 feature trapezoidal grilles, chiselled headlights with daytime running lights and wrap-around LED tail-lamps in keeping with the US car maker’s global design DNA.
Highlighted by a honeycomb mesh grille and an enhancement and extension of its signature power dome, the local car maker has revealed the XR8 will also feature an integrated boot-lid rear spoiler, a unique rear diffuser and a specific quad-tipped exhaust system "tuned for the sporty V8 exhaust note".
The XR8's distinctive 'XR'-stamped lens reflectors are again used in the XR6 (pictured above).
Ford President and CEO Bob Graziano also confirmed a three-engine line-up for the 2015 Falcon range, saying, "Four, six, or eight; our customers will have more choice.”
Hinting at upcoming XR-badged models, Graziano said, “Our enthusiasts have been asking for it so we’ve purposely revealed the Falcon XR6 and XR8 first.”
The reveal of the 2015 Ford Falcon XR8 marks the first time the classic badge has been seen on a new Falcon since 2010.
Pricing and specifications for the entire 2014 Ford Falcon range will be revealed closer to its launch and fourth quarter on-sale date, however, the line-up will include a Falcon ute and likely a tweaked version of the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 found in the 351kW/570Nm FPV GT-F and 335kW FPV GT RSPEC.
Just two days ago, the first video footage of the 2014 Ford Falcon XR8 was released via an official video from the manufacturer.
