Chevrolet SS confirmed to gain manual option, magnetic ride suspension and new colours

The Australian-made Holden Commodore model that is exported to the US as the Chevrolet SS is about to get a number of new options.

Sections of a fleet order sheet published on US site Jalopnik confirms CarAdvice's previous report that the Chevrolet SS will gain a manual transmission option, as well as HSV's magnetic ride control system.

US reviews had pulled General Motors over the coals for offering only a six-speed automatic gearbox, but the new manual option is expected to offer performance sedan buyers a more enticing option. Australian Commodore models are available with six-speed manual or optional automatic transmissions on the SV6, SS and SS-V Redline models.

The magnetic ride control system is currently reserved for HSV models only - no Holden variants receive the clever suspension tech which can adjust its dampers every 1000th of a second to adapt to changing road conditions or the way the car is being driven.

Along with the confirmation that these two items will be made available, the order book states that a number of new colours will also be seen for the US-bound SS models, including hues not yet offered by Holden in Australia on the VF range such as "Alchemy Purple" and "Some Like It Hot Red", but the eye-catching "Fantale Orange" (above) isn't on the list.

CarAdvice has contacted Holden for comment on whether the new colours will be offered on the Commodore range.
