Wicked Campers to remove rude slogans from its vans following backlash

Wicked Campers Australia has admitted it was at fault to plaster misogynistic and crude slogans on the backs of its rental vans, and is reportedly asking people to spray over them.

The Queensland van rental company was embroiled in controversy this following an online petition that attracted more than 110,000 signatories on Change.org, and even drew the ire of the nation's politicians.

Greens deputy leader Adam Bandt posted an image of one such slogan rectification on Facebook (above), stating: "Some nice strategic guerrilla graffiti going on here..."

Queensland Greens senator Larissa Waters was equally as vocal in regards to the divisive slogans, and according to Fairfax Media, the upper house condemned the "litany of sexist, misogynistic, and racist slogans", such as: "A wife: An attachment you screw on the bed to get the housework done”, and “I wouldn’t trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn’t die!”. The senate called on the company to remove slogans.

Senator Waters described the slogans - including the slogan seen on the Mitsubishi van above, which was the initiator for the petition - as: “entirely sexist and misogynist” and “basically inciting sexual violence”.

Wicked Campers has confirmed it will move to rid the offensive slogans from its vans.

"Wicked Campers Owner, John Webb wishes to acknowledge the prevailing community opinion by removing the slogan in question and making a commitment over the coming six months to changing slogans of an insensitive nature," a statement from the company read.
