Full Throttle 2 – Day 1

It's exactly 12:01 am on Saturday the 25th of April and Karl is frantically packing the secondary backup camera next to me, "camera, check, wide angle lens, check, batteries, check". Full Throttle 2 is on.

Last year in February we went to Europe and drove the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Supperleggera and the Aston Martin DBS, so when the planning for Full Throttle 2 started, we had to work out what on earth could top that.

Bugatti's Grand Sport was not going to be ready till later this year, Aston Martin had already invited us to attend the Vantage V12 launch at the Nurburgring and Lamborghini, well, that was in the works.

The search was on! Half way through our planning we met our great new friends over at Ramspeed and they introduced us to the world of German tuned supercars.

"You want to drive the Ferrari F430 Scuderia? Why not a twin supercharged F430 Scuderia?" Who in their right mind can say no to that?

The original plan was to go over to Europe for about seven days, drive a few cars and come home. The current plan is to go to Europe, drive every car that we've spent the last year dreaming about, then come home... maybe.

From the absolutely crazy Veritas III to the Koenigsegg CCX-R and another nine cars in between, Full Throttle 2 is a trip from another planet.

As we began to explore our options for cars, we realised early on that we needed to find a formula for what defined a full throttle worthy car.

"Simple", Anthony said. "They either go from 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds, or they do more than 300km/h... Or both". The rest is history.

The amount of time and effort that has gone into getting this trip organised has been enormous. So with that in mind, I would like to thank the few good people that have made this trip of a lifetime possible.

Firstly, as already mentioned, our new friends at Ramspeed (importers of all the German tuned supercars and parts), Etihad airways for flying us to and from Europe, SINN watches for sponsoring Full Throttle 2, Nitro Energy Drink for keeping us awake and alert during all the late hours and Pirelli tyres for their passion and sponsorship.

I would also like to thank the entire CarAdvice team for putting up with the enormous amount of work and pressure that has come out of organising this trip.

Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank all of you, all 750,000+ of you that visited the site last month and gave us the encouragement to go over to Europe and do what we are about to do. None of this would've been possible if not for your continued support.

Day 1 started as it always does, with a thousand things to do and nine hours to do them in. All was sorted with the last job done with four minutes to go.

On the way back to the CarAdvice lodge, the Full Throttle team even stopped to help a stranded motorist who's Ford Territory had caught on fire on the Sydney harbour bridge.

Due to some restrictions I can't tell you every car that we are going to be driving yet, but here are a few that I can list which I'm personally dying to drive.

There is one other car which is going to top them all, a supercar that goes from 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds and has over 900Nm of torque! Best of all, we'll be the first crew, in the world, to drive it!

We've been told we can have it for a few hours, so long as we don't tell anyone about it till later in the year!

As it stands now, George is most likely still packing, Anthony is practising his German (and it's not getting any better), Karl is inspecting our giant new Full-HD camera gear, our newest member, Jan, is asleep and I'm bringing you our first day update.

The plan is to update once a day, but given the 17 hour flight that awaits us, the update from Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt may come a little late.

We leave Sydney for the United Arab Emirates in 14 hours and arrive in Germany on Sunday the 26th at 6.30am German time.

For now, I shall leave you. Next update from the UAE.

Alborz.
