Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler prices rise by up to $3000

The price of the top-selling Jeep Grand Cherokee has risen across the range, increasing as much as $3000 for the high-performance SRT flagship.

The Grand Cherokee Laredo 2WD 3.6-litre V6 now costs $1000 more than before, raising the price of entry to the large SUV range to $44,000.

The price of the four-wheel-drive Laredo variants is up $2000, taking the petrol V6 to $48,000 and the 3.0-litre V6 diesel to $53,000.

Every Limited and Overland variant is also now $1000 more expensive than before. The Limited V6 petrol is $57,000, the diesel and 5.7-litre V8 now $62,000, and the Overland variants $10K more than the respective Limited models.

The 6.4-litre V8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT cops the biggest price hike, rising from $77,000 to $80,000.

The price of most variants in the Jeep Wrangler line-up have also risen. The Sport 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel, and Sport and Overland 3.6-litre V6 petrol variants are all up $500, now $33,000, $39,000 and $43,000 respectively.

The Wrangler Unlimited four-door Sport diesel is also $500 more expensive at $43,000, while the price of the entry-level Unlimited Sport V6 has risen $2500 to $39,000.

Fiat Chrysler Group Australia corporate affairs director Karla Leach told CarAdvice the price rises were a reflection of a review and subsequent adjustment conducted in May and were “based on a number of factors such as the forecast LCT changes, exchange rate variants and other product fluctuations”.

The specification of all Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models remains unchanged.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is far and away the brand's most popular model in Australia, accounting for more than half its local sales. Jeep sold 8610 in the first half of the year, up a massive 79 per cent, and leaving it second only to the Toyota Prado in the large SUV segment. Wrangler sales are down 15 per cent so far this year to 1381.
