2015 Ford Ranger spied testing in Victoria

Ford Australia is preparing a facelift for the Ranger ute that will bring its styling into line with the forthcoming Everest SUV.

CarAdvice’s spy photographers snapped three prototypes testing in Victoria with plastic cladding disguising their revised front ends.

Visible beneath the camouflage is a new hexagonal grille with bold horizontal crossbars and connecting headlights that appear similar to the design of the Australian-developed Ford Everest concept.

Unlike the SUV concept, however, on which the Ford badge straddles two chrome crossbars, the Ranger’s blue oval appears to sit on a broad central beam.

Plastic over the one of prototype’s dashboards indicates the updated Ranger will also feature a revised interior, which is also expected to closely resemble that of the Everest.

A large water tank in the tray of the single-cab test car suggests Ford’s engineers may also be working on the Ranger’s suspension.

Revealed in August, the Everest concept is believed to give an accurate impression of the production SUV that’s set to go on sale in international markets, including Australia, in 2015. A CarAdvice reader last week photographed a prototype of the Everest, which will compete with the likes of the Holden Colorado 7 and Isuzu MU-X.

With the pair set to share a number of parts, the updated Ranger is likely to launch around the same time as Everest, also in 2015.

The updated Ranger and new Everest are the latest developments of the Ford Australia’s T6 project, which initially created the Ranger ute family that was released in 2011.
