Holden records best sales in three years

Holden enjoyed its best sales in three years last month on the back of aggressive end of financial year offers and its continuing growth against the tide of the market.

Preliminary figures reveal June sales of 12,332 vehicles for Holden – its highest total since June 2011 when it delivered 12,827 cars. June was also Holden’s 10th consecutive month outperforming the market average. It remains the fastest-growing brand of any inside the top 10.

The Commodore enjoyed its strongest-selling month since October, notching up 3156 units. The result is expected to put the Commodore seventh overall in a highly competitive sales month.

The locally produced Cruze also recorded its best month in almost a year, cracking 2000 sales for the first time since August with a 2146 June tally. Holden says the special edition Z-Series variants performed particularly strongly last month.

The preliminary figures also reveal a record month for Colorado, with 2241 sales across the ute and Colorado 7 SUV body styles.

The sub-compact Trax also recorded its best month, contributing 715 sales to Holden’s June total. The larger Captiva 5 had a record June, notching 728 sales according to the data.

The result is expected to give Holden a 10.3 per cent share of the market, taking its 2014 total to 56,773 and cementing second position overall behind Toyota.

Official VFACTS sales data to be released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries tomorrow is expected to reveal that June was the first month of positive growth for the year.

Preliminary data shows sales of just under 120,000 – potentially the biggest sales month in Australian history – representing growth of approximately 0.8 per cent over June 2013.
