Nissan Qashqai :: Pricing and specifications

Pricing and specifications for the new Nissan Qashqai - which replaces the popular Dualis compact SUV - have been revealed ahead of the launch of the new model in July.

The new Nissan Qashqai (pronounced Kash-kai) will pick up where the Dualis left off, with both petrol and diesel models available. This time around, however, all models are front-wheel drive only. Pricing for the all-new model - which will compete with the likes of the Mitsubishi ASX, Skoda Yeti and Volkswagen Tiguan - starts close to the model it replaces: see below for a full price breakdown.

The all-new model is available with the choice of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 106kW of power and 200Nm of torque, with the choice of six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions. The manual version has claimed fuel use of 7.7 litres per 100km, while the auto uses 6.9L/100km. Petrol models have a braked towing capacity of 1200kg.

The diesel version gets a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo unit teamed exclusively to a CVT automatic gearbox. It pumps out 96kW of power and 320Nm of torque. Fuel use for this variant is rated at a claimed 4.9L/100km. Diesel towing is rated at 1400kg braked maximum.

Nissan claims the Qashqai will bring a range of performance enhancements such as a cornering system that can apply individual brakes to improve handling (Active Trace Control), a system that smooths out bumpy sections of road by applying the brakes at certain points (Active Ride Control) and Active Engine Brake, which allows the revs of the engine to help the car slow down.

The car also has an adjustable steering mode system with a Sport setting for "firmer feel and increased feedback", and the new NissanConnect smartphone integration that provides access to apps on the user's device such as Facebook, Pandora and Google.

Other new features for Nissan's baby SUV include a self-parking system (Intelligent Park Assist) that can select and position the car in parellel and bay parking spots which is available on top-end models, not to mention a blind-spot warning system, lane departure warning, Nissan's top-view monitor camera system, and LED headlights with automated high beam. A flexible cargo storage system - similar to that seen in the X-Trail - is available on some models.

The Qashqai - like the Dualis before it - is built in the UK. It is based upon the same underpinnings as the new X-Trail, a shared platform known as the Common Module Family that will be utilised by Renault and Nissan as part of those two brands' alliance.
