Mercedes-AMG GT photographed in camouflage for AMG magazine

The Mercedes-AMG GT coupe has been featured, albeit dressed in swirling green and black camouflage, in the latest edition of AMG's Driving Performance magazine.

While the 14-page feature on the Mercedes-AMG GT is the highlight of the magazine's most recent issue, it doesn't serve up any tantalising new details about the car, except any that one might be able to discern from behind the fire-inspired disguise.

A follow up to the mega-bucks SLS AMG, the new Mercedes-AMG GT will be smaller, lighter and much affordable than its gull-winged predecessor.

Unlike the SLS AMG, which was priced just shy of $500,000 in Australia, the new GT is expected to carry a sticker price that will place it toe-to-toe with the Porsche 911.

Underneath the car's long hood lies a twin-turbocharged V8 motor that's expected to displace four litres.

Sources who spoke to Car magazine have said that the GT will feature around 360kW at launch. An S model down track is expected to house a 370-plus kilowatt version of the twin-turbo engine, while a later Black Series model will offer about 450kW of power.

That said, no-one outside of Mercedes-Benz and AMG knows for certain how much gusto it will deliver to the rear wheels, but you can listen to part of the engine's soundtrack via a teaser video released last month.

While the finer details about the exterior are still cloaked in a thin veil of mystery, earlier this year Mercedes revealed the GT's interior.

As you'd expect in this day and age, there are carbon fibre and metal accents aplenty, while leather covers almost every centimetre of the dashboard, centre tunnel, seats, doors and arm rests. Rising out of the centre of the dash is a high resolution floating display for the entertainment and navigation systems.

Flanking the Comand controller and gear selector in the centre tunnel are buttons for various drivetrain modes, at least two suspension settings, traction and stability control, and automatic engine stop/start.

With an aluminium space frame body, the Mercedes-AMG GT is expected to tip the scales at around 1400kg or around 300kg less than the SLS AMG.

According to Driving Performance the GT will have its "market launch" in March 2015.
