Jaguar, Lexus share 2014 JD Power UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study crown

Jaguar and Lexus have shared top honours in the 2014 JD Power UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study.

The JD Power UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study  examines satisfaction with the ownership experience of owners of one- to three-year-old vehicles. The survey is based on evaluations of four key measures, and rates brands out of 1000 points.

The scores are broken down based on: vehicle appeal, which includes performance, design, comfort and features; ownership costs, including fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair; vehicle quality and reliability; and service satisfaction.

Jaguar's win was the third consecutive victory for the British luxury brand, while Lexus celebrated its 11th top gong in the past 13 years. Their scores of 808 points out of 1000 were both down on 2013’s survey, however, when Jaguar scored 827 and Lexus 818.

Their lower scores were reflected across the market, with the industry average falling four points to 772.

Mercedes-Benz dropped three points (801) but rose two positions into third overall as Honda fell from third to sixth (789, down 21 points) and Skoda lost nine points (800) to remain in fourth spot.

Volkswagen was one of the biggest movers, rising from equal ninth in last year’s study to fifth in 2014 on the back of a four-point increase (791).

Land Rover fell from sixth position in 2013 to 14th this year (774, down 16 points) to fall just above the industry average.

Kia, Mazda and Mini all climbed above the line in this year’s study with a score of 778. Mazda showed the biggest improvement, rising 16 points, while Kia and Mini both gained three points.

Citroen fell from above the line into the bottom five, dropping 26 points to 751, while Seat also slipped beneath the average, down 20 points to 767.

Bottom-ranked Chevrolet went from bad to worse, down 11 points to 680, stretching the distance between it and second-lowest Alfa Romeo (725) to 45 points.

Peugeot (753, up three points) climbed out of the bottom five, while Suzuki (748, down 10 points) and Fiat (739, down 15 points) slipped into it.

Volkswagen Group products dominated the segment rankings, claiming five wins out of a possible nine with the Volkswagen Up!, Golf Plus, Scirocco, Touran and Skoda Yeti, and filling podium places with the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Fabia, Octavia and Superb.

Other class leaders included the Citroen DS3, Kia Venga, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo V70/XC70.
