Lexus RC350 and RC F Coupes confirmed for Australia by early 2015

The Lexus RC Coupe has been confirmed for Australia by the start of 2015.

The new RC Coupe has been confirmed to be sold here in two spec levels - the entry model being the RC350, and the top-end performance model being the RC F.

The RC350 will be powered by a direct- and port-injected, all-alloy 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine producing 234kW of power and 380Nm, and will send its power to the rear wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission.

The RC F - as previously reported by CarAdvice - will be fitted with a 5.0-litre V8 producing "in excess of 330kW and 520Nm", making it the most powerful V8 ever made by Lexus. Exact power figures and efficiency numbers are still to be confirmed for our market.

The engine is able to switch between Atkinson and Otto burn cycles for better efficiency. It sends its power to the rear hoops via an eight-speed Sports Direct Shift automatic gearbox, which Lexus claims "improves linear response to accelerator-pedal operation, letting the driver better feel the torque and power as it is applied".

The RC F will not only boast a more powerful engine - the car features a range of chassis and aerodynamics changes over the entry-level RC Coupe.

The RC Coupe measures 4695mm long, 1840mm wide and 1395mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2730mm. It will compete with the likes of the Audi A5, BMW 4 Series, Infiniti Q60 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. It's expected to start below $80,000 for the RC350, though all pricing and specifications will be revealed later this year.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said the two new sports coupe models will be a welcome addition to the company's range as it prepares to mark 25 years in Australia.

“RC and RC F arrive at a time when Lexus is preparing to celebrate a quarter of a century in Australia,” Hanley said.“These two new vehicles epitomise Lexus’ renewed focus on driving dynamics and design – while signalling a bolder, stronger, more confident Lexus.

“We are certain that these two vehicles will appeal to Australian consumers, delivering that ideal mix of attractive looks and compelling performance,” he said.
