2015 Volvo XC90 interior revealed

The all-new Volvo XC90 looks set to rival the world’s most luxurious SUVs when it launches later this year, following the release of the first official interior images today.

The images, which reveal the Volvo XC90’s high-quality, high-tech seven-seat cabin in detail, are the first part of a three-month teaser campaign that will culminate in August with the unveiling of the car’s exterior. The second-generation Volvo XC90 will then debut in the flesh at October’s Paris motor show, before going on sale in Australia early in 2015.

The dashboard is clean and clutter-free. The large, portrait-oriented tablet-style central touchscreen is the focal point, and forms the heart of the new XC90’s in-car control system. Volvo claims the system represents “an entirely new way for drivers to control their car”, including access to a range of internet-based products and services.

Soft leather and wood cover most of the XC90’s surfaces, while handcrafted details, including a crystal glass gear lever by famous Swedish company Orrefors and diamond-cut controls for the stop-start button, drive mode toggle and volume controls.

Volvo says the fitment of individual seats for all passengers makes the new XC90 a genuine seven-seater. The four-zone climate control system features digital controls for second-row occupants, while the third row gets a separate air conditioning unit.

The car maker also claims the third-row seats offer class-leading comfort for passengers up to 170cm tall, and have been designed with special attention paid to ease of ingress and egress.

The second-gen XC90 will become the first model built on the brand’s Scalable Product Architecture platform, which Volvo says opens up a wider range of design flexibility, improves driveability, boosts interior space, and allows for the inclusion of the latest safety and connected car technologies.

Volvo will detail the new XC90’s safety and interior air quality features in late July/early August, and tell the story of its technology, powertrains and chassis between mid-July and the exterior unveiling in August.
