2015 Audi A7, S7 Sportback : New entry model promises cheaper starting price

A new entry-level Audi A7 Sportback diesel variant will introduce a cheaper starting price when the updated range launches alongside a refreshed Audi S7 Sportback in the first quarter of 2015.

Audi Australia has confirmed a new 160kW 3.0-litre diesel quattro variant will be introduced as the new base model. The German luxury brand promises the new variant will make the A7 “more attainable than ever”, promising a sharpening of the current model’s $136,750 starting price.

Joining it in the A7 range will be the flagship 3.0-litre Biturbo diesel quattro, which now produces 235kW of power (up 5kW), while the S7 performance model will continue to top the range, albeit with an uprated 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with cylinder-on-demand technology that now pumps out 331kW (up 22kW).

No other variants, such as a petrol-powered A7, have been confirmed for the local range at this stage, though Audi Australia says it will announce the full range closer to its launch in the first quarter of 2015, suggesting more variants are likely to be added.

Distinguishing the updated Audi A7/S7 Sportback models is a reshaped grille frame, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new angular headlights with standard LED lamps, and revised horizontal tailpipes. Dynamic turn signals are standard at the rear, while dynamic front turn signals come with the optional Matrix LED headlights that debuted on the A8 limousine.

New interior materials include an aluminium/Beaufort walnut inlay and Valcona leather, while the colour palette has been overhauled and now offers five options. Ventilated seats with massaging function and a head-up display are also optional.

Audi’s MMI operating system is standard across the range. The top system, MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch, features a powerful Nvidia graphics processor, touchpad controller, satellite navigation and Audi connect with internet access. Headlining the audio line is a Bang & Olufsen advanced sound system.

Advanced driver assist systems include adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, an improved night vision assistant, side assist and active lane assist, and Audi’s pre sense safety system.

The Audi drive select dynamic handling system comes standard, while options include dynamic steering, two sport suspension versions, and adaptive air suspension.

Front-wheel-drive A7 variants (not offered in Australia) have been updated from the multitronic continuously variable transmission to the S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
