Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Convertible one-off to be raffled for charity

The Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary model that debuted at the 2014 New York auto show was said to be only available as a coupe - until now.

Only 1964 examples of the 50th Anniversary Mustang were expected to be built, but Ford has announced it will build a convertible version of the celebratory half-century model: however, there will only be one of them, and it will be sold off for charity.

The one-off Mustang will mimic the other 50th Anniversary models with identical Wimbledon White paint, 19-inch wheels, chrome exterior trimming, twin-tone upholstery with contrasting stitching, and aluminium trimming across the dashboard. The car is also set to be the first drop-top model of the new-generation Mustang to be built, and will bear a special edition plaque with "0001 of 0001" badging and company boss Bill Ford's signature.

The drop-top model is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine with a six-speed manual transmission, and this unique version includes Ford's Mustang performance pack that includes Brembo brakes, Pirelli P Zero tyres and a limited slip differential. Its engine pumps out 313kW of power and 530Nm of torque.

Ford will raffle the Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary convertible model at the Woodward Dream Cruise on August 16 in Michigan, with tickets costing $20. All proceeds from the raffle go to the US National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Ford Mustang will go on sale in 2015 in Australia, though none of the special edition anniversary models will make it here.
