Kia Rio Special Edition arrives in Australia

The Kia Rio city car line-up has seen the addition of a new Special Edition model.

The Kia Rio Special Edition is based upon the 1.4-litre four-cylinder entry-level S model, but according to the South Korean brand it gains $1000 worth of extra equipment.

Over the entry-level five-door S it gains 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog-lights, folding side mirrors with indicators, cruise control, alloy pedals, a six-speaker stereo with two tweeters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector.

Kia has positioned the Rio Special Edition model at $16,190 driveaway for the five-speed manual and $18,190 driveaway for the four-speed automatic. The standard S manual is $15,490 driveaway and the auto is $17,490 driveaway.

Kia's Rio has had a decent start to 2014, ranking fourth for sales in the city car segment behind the class-leading Mazda 2, which is currently in run-out, the soon-to-be-facelifted Toyota Yaris and strong-selling Hyundai i20.
