McLaren rules out SUV

Supercar maker McLaren has announced it has no plans to follow many of its exclusive rivals into SUV territory.

McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt told Bloomberg that the British brand has no intention of following Porsche with its Cayenne and Macan models, Lamborghini with its upcoming Urus model and Maserati with its future Levante SUV.

"We genuinely believe we make the best sports cars in the world," Flewitt was quoted as saying. "We need to remain very focused. McLaren is a sports car brand and that's exactly what we're going to remain."

The brand is pulling no punches when it comes to products - it recently dropped the MP4-12C supercar to focus on its newly-developed 650S model, which slots below the P1 hypercar. It is also planning on introducing a new model every 12 months, including a new 'budget' model known as the P13, which is expected to start below $300,000 locally.
