Chevrolet SS gains six-speed manual option, magnetic ride suspension – report

The Holden Commodore that is exported to the US as the Chevrolet SS will soon be available with a six-speed manual transmission and magnetic ride suspension.

Motor Trend reports a General Motors insider has confirmed the Chevrolet SS will soon be offered with a new stick-shift and adjustable suspension options after almost a year on sale in the world's second largest car market.

US reviews lambasted General Motors for offering a six-speed automatic only, but the six-speed manual option is expected to pique buyers' interest. The magnetic ride control system is likely to be borrowed from Holden's performance arm HSV - in that brand's models, the semi-active suspension can adjust its dampers every 1000th of a second to adapt to changing road conditions or the way the car is being driven.

The Chevrolet SS is powered by a retuned version of the 6.2-litre V8 engine seen in the HSV GenF range, which churns out 310kW of power and 563Nm of torque - more than the Commodore SS model's 6.0-litre unit, which produces 270kW/530Nm in manual guise and 260kW/517Nm with its six-speed auto. It's unclear if the Chevrolet SS manual model will see any jump in power.

A Holden spokesperson said the company was unable to comment on product plans for Chevrolet.
